Tim Hays

Residing in Superior, Colorado, Tim Hays is a beacon of motivation, leadership, and patience. Over the past twenty years, he has passionately dedicated himself to empowering athletes and fostering excellence on the basketball court and in life’s broader spectrum. He transcends the traditional role of a coach, emerging as a friend, a leader, and a mentor who understands that sport is about more than winning; it’s about character-building and holistic development.

His journey in basketball began in 2003 as a high school coach in Meridian, Idaho. This marked the commencement of a tireless endeavor, where he infused his players with qualities of toughness and discipline, leading them to numerous victories. His adaptability in coaching took him from Idaho to Australia, Colorado, and eventually to Southeastern University in Florida. Here, his team achieved an unparalleled record of 106 straight conference wins and six consecutive conference titles, showcasing his profound motivational and culture-building skills.

While coaching in Australia, his efforts garnered significant recognition, earning him the Coach of the Year title from Basketball Australia and solidifying his status as an elite international coach. At the University of Colorado, his winning trajectory continued, nurturing a culture of excellence, integrity, and diversity, culminating in the team’s first Sweet 16 in 20 years. Throughout his career, he has been instrumental in developing 52 All-Conference players, with 17 advancing to professional contracts, a testament to his exceptional ability to nurture talent.

His life has been equally rich and fulfilling, shared with his wife of 21 years, Crista, a former professional basketball player. The couple’s journey has been intertwined, with shared coaching experiences and a mutual love for travel, horses, and the dream of owning a hobby farm. In August of 2023, he made a significant personal sacrifice, pausing his Division 1 coaching career to provide care for two terminally ill family members. This act of familial devotion speaks volumes of his character, demonstrating that his virtues extend well beyond the basketball court. Their upcoming 22nd wedding anniversary is a celebration of their enduring love and their shared resilience through life’s challenges.
